Mea’s young nephew was recently diagnosed with retinal dystrophy. Only three months on from his initial diagnosis, he is now legally blind.

Vision Australia has been supporting Mea’s nephew and his family, with home visits, house safety assessments, lessons on using canes and loan equipment.

Mea recently ran a bake sale at the school where she works, and raised an incredible $862 for Vision Australia. She wanted to run the fundraiser so Vision Australia can continue to assist people adjusting to significant and rapid sight deterioration.

"I felt helpless and wanted to do something meaningful. I thought fundraising would be a way for me to support my family through a difficult time", said Mea.

Everyone was asked to bring a gold coin to buy a treat from the sale, which was held in the schools Lunch Room.

"In such an uncertain economic climate it was incredible just how generous people were with their time and their money. My network of family, friends and colleagues were very supportive throughout the whole process".
