Open Eyes Open Hearts - raising awareness and funds for Vision Australia.

Rosie Dean’s young daughter, Luna Faye, was diagnosed with Bilateral Congenital Cataracts as an infant and recently had her lens removed from each eye. At 16 months of age, Luna is currently Aphakic, which means she is severely long-sighted and unable to focus on things. At roughly 5 years of age Luna will undergo further surgery where she will have implants which will hopefully restore her vision.

After seeing how much Vision Australia did for the blind and low vision community, Rosie wanted to do something to help.

“I wanted to give back to an organisation close to our family’s heart”, Rosie said.

Rosie decided to hold her first-ever fundraiser, a raffle called ‘Open Eyes Open Hearts’.

She was overwhelmed by the response she received, with over 20 local businesses contributing prizes including meal vouchers, beauty packs, Pilates sessions and even artwork.

Together, the tight-knit community from country Victoria raised an incredible $4000 for Vision Australia.

“We are blessed to have such an amazing support group and everyone got on board to donate. Luna is such an infectious girl with a lot of people that love her.

“After approaching a couple of businesses, the word got out and I had businesses contacting me asking how they could help. It was incredible.”

Encouraged by its success, Rosie is hoping to make her fundraiser an annual event and is already putting plans in place for next year.

My Vision for Vision lets you bring your fundraising dream to reality, just like Rosie did.

Its all about fundraising for Australians who are blind or have low vision and having fun at the same time.
