Meet Lotte, as her parents find a rewarding network of support
When parents Madeline and Christopher had twins, they were overjoyed to welcome two healthy little girls into the world – Lotte and Dessa. Both girls passed their initial eye exams, until 6 months old. Christopher noticed that one of Lotte’s eyes wasn’t responding like the other, after an accidental knock to the face at a birthday party. A further check-up revealed that Lotte had no red reflex in her right eye due to cataracts.
Madeline went straight to Vision Australia to educate herself and her family on vision conditions, finding support right away as brave little Lotte went in for cataract surgery shortly after diagnosis.
They also met other families who were experiencing a similar journey, with her friend Lucy joining 100K Your Way in support of her daughter Elkie, who has bilateral cataracts and glaucoma.
Now Madeline and Christoper are taking up the challenge, walking 100km over the month for young Lotte, who is also experiencing low vision in her left eye at 2.5 years of age.
“When people join or support 100K Your Way it means so much to us! It shows that our family and friends are there on this journey with us.”
