Meet Lucy

Lucy is an energetic, adventurous and whip-smart six-year-old who lights up every room she enters. But the future didn’t always feel this hopeful and bright for Lucy and her family.

At just three months old, Lucy was diagnosed with idiopathic nystagmus, a condition that causes blurred vision due to her eyes moving side to side uncontrollably. Lucy’s mother, Nicole, says the diagnosis left the family feeling “lost and alone, unsure of what Lucy’s future might look like.”

This changed when they were introduced to Vision Australia, who were able to provide immediate assistance and early intervention services thanks to supporters and fundraising from initiatives like 100K Your Way.

“Today, we feel informed, supported and hopeful,” shares Nicole. “Vision Australia didn’t just provide services. They gave us confidence, community and a pathway forward.”

Working with Vision Australia meant Lucy’s family was surrounded by professionals and families who understood their position. “It was the first time we felt that we weren’t alone, that someone genuinely understood the daily struggles, the fears and the hopes we carry for Lucy,” says Nicole.

After recently starting school, Lucy has faced new challenges such as visual fatigue. She continues to undergo testing in the hopes of understanding the cause of her condition. But no matter what she chooses to do in life, Vision Australia will be there continuing to support the family and setting Lucy up with the skills and independence to move forward with confidence.

Lucy’s family will be taking on 100K Your Way for the second time this year and are excited to support other families just like theirs.

“When people choose to get involved in 100K Your Way, they’re not just completing a challenge. They’re investing in children like Lucy,” says Nicole. “It means funding for essential support, access to life-changing resources for families navigating vision loss, and building strong, connected support systems so no family feels alone in their journey.”

You can support Lucy with a donation or follow her family’s lead by signing up for 100K Your Way 2026.
