Alanna and Max's story

Max was born with a genetic eye condition called Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis, a condition that results in severe vision loss. At only 3 months old, Max’s vision was classified as legally blind, and while it is believed he could have light perception, the true extent of Max’s vision loss will be unknown until he can articulate what he can see.

Max’s parents Alanna and Elliott connected with Vision Australia immediately after their son’s diagnosis. The donations Vision Australia received meant they were able to provide Max will their full support up until he was three years old and eligible for NDIS.

Alanna comments on the impact Vision Australia has had on her family, stating “Throughout this entire time we have been supported by Vision Australia. Max has had assistance from all specialists – OT, Mobility, Physio, and Speech Therapy. All of these specialists work with Max currently and will continue to help support him into his school years. The emotional support I have received (as a Mum of a blind child) has been tremendous. Everyone is so incredibly helpful and knowledgeable.”

This year, Max’s family and friends have created a team called ‘Maxy’s Crew’ and will be participating in Vision Australia’s 100k Your Way challenge to show their support for children just like Max.

“Help Vision Australia help children like Max!! Doing a little bit of exercise to help such an amazing non-for-profit company and raise funds for children just like Max who may just need a little bit of extra help,” Alana says.
