Meet Sam, the inspiring voice connecting a community

Sam was born with low vision, so Vision Australia has been a part of Sam’s life from a very early age. “My parents didn’t have much experience with blindness and low vision before – it can be a daunting situation for everyone. Vision Australia really alleviated their concerns and were there every step of the way, mapping out a plan to help me live the life I wanted,” explains Sam.

Today, Sam proudly uses his voice to inspire and connect the community as the host and producer of Talking Vision on Vision Australia Radio.

Sam credits Vision Australia for helping him build a life full of purpose. "I love being able to give back to an organisation that’s meant so much to me," he says. "Through Talking Vision, I can inform and entertain the blind and low vision community and the broader print disability community. It’s a role I’m incredibly grateful for.”

This April, Sam will take on 100K Your Way for the second year in a row, walking 100 kilometres to raise funds for Vision Australia. "Last year, I loved the sense of community and getting outside my comfort zone. It was exciting to push myself, get fit, and connect with nature,” says Sam. In 2025, he’s ready and raring to step it up a notch. “I've got a few ideas up my sleeve as to how I'm going to smash through that 100K barrier, so I'm looking forward to getting out there in April and having a go,” he says.

“When I see other people getting involved and fundraising to support Vision Australia and people like me, it just means so much. It’s a cause so close to my heart and it’s absolutely wonderful to see all this support from the wider community, so thank you!”
