Tommy's story

Tommy was diagnosed with Horizontal Nystagmus, bilateral iris transillumination and foveal hypoplasia and Oculocutaneous Albinism (OCA1a). For the past year, Tommy’s parents Blake and Tiarne have been in contact with Vision Australia, who have been helping them navigate their way through Tommy’s journey of vision impairment. “Vision Australia to us means support and inclusion for families just like ours,” Tommy’s parents say.

Blake and Tiarne reflect on the impact Vision Australia has had on their young family, “Vision Australia has been a massive support from the first time we had been in contact with them and have been ongoing with the support of the many services they provide to Tommy. They have helped with many aspects of going through Tommy’s diagnosis and helped guide him through his everyday life and achieving his early life milestones,” they explain.

This year, Blake and Tiarne, alongside their loved ones walked for 100K Your Way. “Being active means a lot being a parent as being active promotes good health for a long life not only for us but for our children too. It is also such a great cause and one that is close to our hearts,” they say.

“Don’t think twice and just do it. 100K over a month is not daunting at all and it is for such a great cause which helps so many people just like our Tommy,” they explain.
