I'm fundraising for Vision Australia and Seeing Eye Dogs
Please support me as I take on the run of my life! On the 21st to 24th November I will be joining an adaptive team to take on 100 miles (162km) with the GTP100 in the Grampians Victoria.
My leg of the race will be the night run of 42km. With my run guide on my hip, we will traverse a section of the Grampians national park by torch light. With 12 hours to complete my leg and over 1700m of elevation, this will be a challenge like nothing I have ever done before!
18 months ago, at 47 years old, I suffered a bi lateral central retinal vein occlusion. Leaving me with no light perception in one eye and approximately 40% of blurred vision in my other. After a lot of research, the evidence pointed to a vascular problem and my doctors suggested I take up walking.
After 6 months of living with my vision loss, I decided I wanted to run. His lead me to find a guide and learn how to run with limited sight. As an adaptive runner, trust and communication are everything and my guide is second to none. Since January we have competed in several events including a half marathon and 2 by 35km events. While planning my attack on a full marathon for 2025, I found myself in the company of other adaptive runners and we are joining forces.
This 100 mile stage race is going to be the first of many events to dispel the myth that those that have had significant challenges in life can get back to something they love.
Join me in challenging the stigma that those with disability can't. Please DONATE now to make a secure online donation and secure a brighter future for Australians who are blind or have low vision.
Thanks so much for your support, Dale.
