In honour of my grandma Jamila: A Granddaughter’s 100km Journey

My name is Jamila, and I was named after my grandmother, Jamila, who passed away 14 years ago. She lost her vision later in life, and seeing how that changed her world left a lasting impact on me.

Even though she is no longer here, carrying her name reminds me of her strength, resilience, and love. This April, I’m walking/ running 100km for Vision Australia in her honour and for everyone living with blindness or low vision.

Every step I take is a tribute to my grandma and a way to support the incredible work Vision Australia does to help people live independently and confidently.
