I'm fundraising for Vision Australia and Seeing Eye Dogs
Why We Are Hiking for Vision
Hello and thank you for visiting our fundraising page!
While walking around the serene trails of Mundaring Weir, an idea blossomed into a plan to support a cause very dear to us through a fundraising hike for Vision Australia.
Alex's Story
Alex is my 24-year-old brother. His medical journey began uniquely; he was born without an anterior pituitary gland, meaning his body cannot produce vital hormones like testosterone, growth hormone, thyroid hormones, and cortisol. Additionally, he was born with an immature optic nerve and severe scoliosis, among other health complications.
Recently, Alex’s vision has significantly worsened. He’s lost much of his night and peripheral vision and is now legally blind. Medical tests have revealed a degenerative disorder in his rod and cone cells—the critical photoreceptors in his eyes. There’s a real possibility he could lose his vision entirely. Alex is currently undergoing genetic testing to determine the specific phenotype.
Despite all this adversity, Alex remains one of the bravest and kindest souls I know.
Our Goal
We .... as in Zak, Josh, Cassy and I (plus others who will join us along the way)...
Are hiking the Western Australian Cape to Cape Trek in 5 days to raise funds for Vision Australia, a leading national provider of blindness and low vision services. Every donation will contribute to providing essential support and services for individuals like my brother, empowering them to live full and independent lives. This is no easy endeavor, with treks of up to 30+ km per day!
How You Can Help
Join us in making a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by vision loss. Here’s how you can contribute:
Donate: Every donation helps, no matter the size. Your support can fund adaptive technology, counseling, and essential support services.
Share: Help us raise awareness by sharing our page with your friends, family, and on social media.
Together, we can help illuminate the path forward for Alex and many others facing similar challenges. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
